Selena Gomez strikes a cute pose while meeting “Santa” Stitch at Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle on Saturday morning (November 7) in Anaheim, Calif.

The 17-year-old Disney starlet taped a segment for the 2009 Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, airing December 25 on ABC.

Yesterday, Sel tweeted, “[My mom Mandy] made me turn the depressing music off and put on ‘One Time’ by my boy Justin Bieber. Why does he always put me in a good mood?”

So, I've been struggling with downsizing. First things first, I have too much shit. Most of the shit is stuff people gave me, but far more than anything else, I have an asston of books as well as a bunch of DVDs. If you want to know where my disposable (and some non-disposable >.>) income went, the answer is: books. Aside from necessary life objects, stuff related to social engagements (food, movie tickets, gifts, etc.), school stuff (tuition, textbooks, supplies), and my Netflix and MegaUpload accounts, I only buy books and the occasional DVD (usually only ones $5 or less--exception: any Harry Potter DVD).

I love books more than anything else in the world, pretty much. I have an addiction, to be honest. I haven't read most of the books I have and yet I keep acquiring more and get lots of books at the library now that I've actually run out of space for new books.

Yeah, you read that right. I have no space for new books. Why? Because I have three large bookcases full of books in a bedroom the size of a prison cell. This might be taking things a little too far.

I mostly buy books used for pretty cheap (many good books in good condition for $0.50USD to $1USD at Half-Price Books, my favorite store in the whole entire world. Yeah, I'm even applying for a job there. It will be the death of me.

I also get some books bargain-priced on Amazon, on the occasion I'm lucky enough to catch the sale. I do preorder some books by authors I love and have no problem with that. I'm going to continue doing that because there are some authors that I like to support and some books I absolutely cannot wait for, such as anything related to The Hunger Games.

Many people, mostly people who hate rewatching movies or TV shows or rereading books, ask me why I buy books and if I'm ever going to reread them. And the answer is yes, I reread books a lot! Often, I reread the entire books, but more often than that, I just several specific parts of books that I loved.

I think, for books I've previously read, I'm going to ask myself if I'm going to reread it and if so, how often? Maybe once? Is it worth keeping it or should I just go to the library if I want to reread it?

For many, many, MANY books there is no question: Yes, I love that book to death, keep it.

For others, the answer is: Eh, I might. For the books I haven't read, I do plan on keeping them until I've read or attempted to read them at least once. After that, I'll decide how to categorize them. I read about 40-80 books each year so this won't be a HUGE problem if I focus on reading books I actually own instead of ones from the library. ;)

What am I going to do with these books? I may take them to Half-Price Books to sell them, I may send them to friends who I think would like them, I may even give some away here! Who knows!

And yeah, this is crossposted to my blog--sorry to those of you who see this twice. :P

According to author Sapphire, the author whose novel inspired "Precious," Madonna was set to produce the movie & Brandy was also set to play the main character.

Sapphire, the author whose novel inspired the much-buzzed-about film, told Entertainment Weekly about the many offers she received and eventually turned down to take her book to the big screen.

One of them came from a producer who thought R&B singer and “Moesha” star Brandy should play the obese, illiterate New York City teenager. “I remember this one producer told me that he had found Precious—and it was going to be Brandy,” a shocked Sapphire said. “Excuse me? I literally almost hung up on him.”

She even received an offer from pop icon Madonna. “Then Madonna wanted to produce it. I was like, ‘Madonna?’ I don’t think this is her film.”

Filmmaker Lee Daniels (Monster’s Ball) eventually won the rights to make the movie, casting Sidibe as Precious and comedian Mo’Nique as her abusive mother, Mary Jones. Precious is now open in select cities.

Anna Paquin Reports for Duty

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Gearing up for another workday, Anna Paquin was spotted arriving on the set of “The Romantics” in Long Island, New York today (November 5).

The “True Blood” babe looked a bit tuckered out as she strolled past the nearby shutterbugs, sporting a black coat with a zebra-print scarf and jeans.

Adam Brody Sans Glee’s Dianna Agron

Adam Brody grabs a hot drink at Starbucks in between shooting his new movie, The Romantics, in New York’s Long Island on Saturday morning (November 7).

Yesterday, the 29-year-old actor was seen grabbing Starbucks with Dianna Agron, who recently explained why she’s not with the rest of the Glee cast back in L.A. She wrote, “I am so sorry that I won’t be able to attend the Barnes and Noble event today with the rest of the cast. I was given an incredible opportunity to work for the next month and we are on the east coast. We feel so lucky to have the support of our fans, and I had an amazing time meeting so many of you in New York this past week. Again, apologies, but do not fear, the ones you will be meeting today are gold. I already miss them very much.”

Bananas!

Taylor Jacobson, who has worked with stylist Rachel Zoe for four years as seen on Bravo’s The Rachel Zoe Project, was fired this morning, effective immediately, according to sources.

Jacobson, who was often at odds with her boss and coworker Brad Goreski on the reality show but helped Zoe’s celebrity styling business run smoothly, wrote on her Twitter account: “Today is an end of an era and a beginning of a new professional chapter. Looking forward to what the future brings…!!!”

No word on the cause behind the termination or the future of the reality show, which has shot for two seasons.

Meanwhile, Jacobson is reportedly saying it was her decision to leave. Fashionista.com posted an email that she sent to her contacts: “After four amazing years at Rachel Zoe Corporation, I’m saddened and exhilarated at the same time to announce my departure. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to take the challenging leap to go off and style on my own.”

Zoe’s rep Carrie Gordon would only confirm to PEOPLE, “Taylor Jacobson is no longer with Rachel Zoe, Inc.”

The important thing is that there should be a space of time, say four hours a day at least, when a professional writer doesn’t do anything else but write. He doesn’t have to write, and if he doesn’t feel like it, he shouldn’t try. He can look out of the window or stand on his head or writhe on the floor. But he is not to do any other positive thing, not read, write letters, glance at magazines, or write checks. Write or nothing. It’s the same principle as keeping order in a school. If you make the pupils behave, they will learn something just to keep from being bored. I find it works. Two very simple rules, A. you don’t have to write. B. you can’t do anything else. The rest comes of itself.

Guys, if I applied this advice to school work, I WOULD HAVE SO MUCH LESS STRESS. No lie.

My brother still hasn't gone to speak with my grandmother yet, so there's a chance that he'll convince her to change her mind about letting his fiancée come to her house on Christmas Day. A very, very, very slim chance, admittedly, but a chance. If not, well, I've already said that he won't be coming.

My mom has decided that, if Bear still isn't invited, then the two of us will leave after a couple of hours so that we can come home and cook. (If I go, which I'm really not sure about yet. Little Brother told me that he wants me to go even if he doesn't, though, since it will be my grandmother's first Christmas in over 60 years without my grandfather, so... maybe?) If dad's side of the family doesn't want Bear spending the holiday with us then we'll have our own get-together at our house. Which, you know, yay? At least my mom isn't acting like Bear's going to disappear if people pretend she doesn't exist.

Of course, we're already preparing for my dad's reaction to that bit of news. He's already made it clear that he's planning on spending the entire day at my grandmother's house, like we always do, so my mom and I both have serious doubts that he'll react well when we tell him that we're leaving around noon whether he wants us to or not. And that "he's welcome to stay there or come home with us, depending on whether or not he wants to be an ass and pretend that his son and future daughter-in-law don't exist."

Her words, by the way, not mine. She, at least, is as pissed about this whole situation as I am.

Just for the record, if I haven't made this clear, it's only my dad's side of the family that's having issues. My mom's side of the family doesn't really care; they're all just glad that one of the grandkids looks like they might be getting married sometime in the future. They've pretty much decided that the rest of us are going to end up being "old maids" (or, in my case, a lesbian!), so they're happy that at least the boy is showing some signs of eventual marriage since none of the girls are.

Julie Taymor’s Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark hasn’t had the easiest time making it to the Broadway stage. On paper, it would seem to have everything going for it: a big budget, one of theatre’s brightest directors, songs written by Bono and the Edge, and a cast that’s had Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming attached. Still, the show was hit hard by hiatus last month — and then there was the little matter of casting Peter Parker. Taymor’s Across the Universe lead Jim Sturgess had participated in readings and workshops, but he never officially signed on. Who did Taymor have in mind for the role, if anyone?

While I was talking today to Bright Star’s talented Ben Whishaw (the full chat will be coming to Movieline next week), we landed on the topic of Taymor, who directed him in her upcoming adaptation of The Tempest. As the actor discussed her, suddenly the thought crossed my mind: Whishaw himself is bookishly handsome, has a theatrical background, and has sung in roles before (including one scene in Bright Star). Surely Taymor approached him to play Peter Parker at some point?

So I asked. And, pay dirt.

“She did, yes!” Whishaw said. “She did ask me to speak to her about it.”

Still, despite Taymor’s vote of confidence, Whishaw wasn’t sure he’d be right for the role. “I don’t feel confident enough as a singer,” he admitted, though he has nothing but praise for Taymor’s methods.

“She’s working at a very furious pace. You almost have the sense that she could do anything on a project: she could act in it, she could light it, she could design it, she could direct it. She’s working at a real speed, and you’ve either got to be up to her speed or lag behind. I like that kind of challenge.”

Certainly, a Spider-Man musical would have posed a very different challenge than the sedate Bright Star. “Yeah,” Whishaw said, laughing. “And maybe not a bad one! I’d love to do a play or something with her, or even another type of musical. I’m just not a strong enough vocalist for Spider-Man.”
